1 in 3 women in the UK will have an abortion in their lifetime. But the last 10 years has seen an increase in police suspicion, dozens of investigations, and six women in England have been charged with ending their own pregnancy in the past 2 years alone, causing trauma and emotional turmoil for countless women.

As Liberal Democrat Women, we are asking our M.P.s  to sign the abortion decriminalisation amendments -  Tonia Antoniazzi’s amendment NC1 and Stella Creasy’s amendment NC20 to the Crime and Policing Bill, and to vote in favour of these amendments if they are selected by the speaker.

These amendments would stop the invasive, lengthy investigations, criminal charges, and custodial sentences for vulnerable women who have ended their own pregnancy. We at Liberal Democrat Women believe these amendments would be a great step in modernising the UK’s abortion law, and protecting abortion rights in the UK.

For further information on NC1, we have attached a joint briefing document from organisations including the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) explaining amendment NC1 and why we believe it is so important for women's rights.
